The Department "Communication networks" prepares bachelors, specialists and masters with the specialization in "Information communication networks" of the approach "Telecommunication" with the licensed amount of admission 140 students for full-time education on state-financed and contract basis. Also, education on part-time basis, part-time distance education and extern-based education is applied. There exists an opportunity to get second higher education according an accelerated program. The department prepares Cand.Sc. students and Doc.Sc. students.
Specialty "Information communication networks" is a wide-profiled specialty within the sphere of information technologies, with the relevant hardware supply for telecommunication networks of various purposes, including computers. In the course of studies, students receive professional knowledge and skills on modern digital information technologies for telephone communication networks, mobile communication networks (cellular, trunking, personal satellite communication), data transmission networks (local, global, corporate), digital networks of integrated servicing, intelligent networks, multiservice networks, new generation networks (NGN), on creation and providing resources and services of Internet.

Specialty "Information communication networks" has six specializations for training specialists, approved by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine:

  • Information communication networks.
  • Mobile communication.
  • Information technologies, business networks and systems.
  • Software for information communication networks.
  • Computer-aided communication facilities.
  • Mail communication networks.
Graduates from specialty "Information communication networks" are usually employed:
  • In firms and organizations, providing telephone communication services, mobile services and Internet (Ukrtelecom, U'tel, Velton Telecom, Kyivstar, ĚŇŃ, Life, Beeline, Internet-providers etc.);
  • As network engineers, maintaining the operation of local and corporate networks, database administrators in banking establishments, manufacturing and trade companies, educational establishments, state administration bodies and security agencies; as well as hardware and software developers for control and communications systems.
39 staff teachers are employed at the Department, among whom there are:
  • 6 Doctors of Science (Engineering) and professors (V.M.Bezruk, V.I.Voloshchuk, I.N.Presnyakov, P.D.Botsman, V.V.Yemelyanov, A.N.Zelenin);
  • 11 Candidates of Science (Engineering) and Associate professors (Yu.M.Bidniy, D.V.Bondar, V.I.Yeliseyev, V.A.Zolotaryov, S.A.Krivenko, V.N.Korolyov, A.I.Kostromitskiy, A.V.Omelchenko, A.A.Astrakhantsev, M.I.Kochkin, S.V.Omelchenko);
  • 6 Senior teachers (A.I.Bybka, Yu.N.Koltun, A.P.Malinin, A.M.Malkov, I.V.Svid, A.B.Shiryayev);
  • 16 Assistants, postgraduate students and research engineers.
The department provides teaching of the following subjects: discrete mathematics, computer science, computer engineering and microprocessors, applied computer technologies, theoretic framework for information distribution, switching systems in electric communication, telecommunication and information networks, local communication systems, network operating systems, Internet-technologies, information systems and Internet, information communications based on Internet, IP-telephony, intelligent networks, neural networks, digital communication technologies, digital integral service network, mobile systems and networks, user access network technologies, satellite communication and navigation systems, systems and networks for radio- and TV broadcast, computer-aided engineering for communication networks, optimization procedures, data protection in communication systems, business processes in telecommunication, billing systems in telecommunication, data bases in information communication networks, electric signals and circuits theory, principles of circuit design, transmission systems in electric communication, measuring technologies in communication networks, projecting and design of information networks, information networks management, packet switching network equipment, optical fiber communication networks, mobile communication network hardware facilities, cellular and trunking communication, switching systems in mobile communication networks, user access to base telecommunication networks, information networks in economy, data protection in banking networks, electronic payment networks, transactions security in opened networks etc.

Scientific approach of the department is "Information and telecommunication technologies and networks". Research adviser – Doctor of Science (Engineering), Professor V.M.Bezruk. Constituent parts of the department scientific approach:

  • Improvement of efficiency, jam resistance and information security within communication networks.
  • Model-building and multicriteria optimization of information communication networks.
  • Modulation, encoding, spectrum analysis of signals within information communication networks.
  • Mobile communication, satellite communication and navigation networks technologies.
  • Information distribution and management technologies in multiservice new generation networks.
  • Information distribution, signals digital processing in communication networks.
Before the department there operates a scientific research laboratory, the scientific approach of which is "Technologies and hardware-software facilities in digital information communication systems".

The scientists from the Department have tight contacts in the sphere of science and education with the leading universities and companies in Russia, Poland, Germany, Mexico, and Canada.
Scientific and research work is actively performed at the department. The staff and the students of the department constantly take part in scientific conferences of international, republican and regional levels. Not only the staff and the postgraduates, but also 2-5 year students take part in scientific developments of the department. Upon results of scientific research and development of the department, more than 100 scientific articles and monographs were published over the recent ten years. Scientific and technical inventions are protected with more than 50 authorship certificates and with 8 patents of Russia and Ukraine.
